North Carolina Concealed Handgun Class

North Carolina Concealed Handgun Class

Audience: This is a mandatory class for anyone to carry a concealed handgun in North Carolina.

Scope: The curriculum is based on the NC Concealed Carry Handgun (CCH) requirements set forth by the state. Classroom instruction and practical exercises on the range will provide the student a solid base skill set in concealed carry and presentation techniques. Students will also have an understanding of the carry/no-carry and shoot/no-shoot scenarios. NC CCH currently has reciprocity in 38 other states (as of 06/2014, subject to change).

Participants should be prepared to train in all weather conditions. This program is mainly classroom with about two hours of range time. Participants should come to class with an open mind and a good attitude.

Training day is 8 to 9 hours, 8:30 am to 5:00 or 5:30pm, with 30 minutes for lunch. It is highly recommend that you bring your lunch as you will have no options within 15 mins of the range. It is also recommended you have snacks, some will be available such as power bars and granola bars. Otherwise, please bring your own.

**Course can be broken into two 4 hour days upon request, must have a minimum of 5 participants for this option. **

Prerequisites and Physical Requirements

  1. Must be eligible to legally carry/own a handgun.
  2. Students must possess their own handgun and holster.
  3. Student should be prepared to train in all weather.
  4. Student must possess the physical strength and stamina to fire their firearms and sit in a classroom.

Required Equipment

  • Pistol (semi-auto or revolver)
  • 1-3 Magazines (for semi-auto) OR 1-3 Speed loaders/Moon clips (for revolvers)
  • Sturdy belt at least 1.5” wide (recommended, not required)
  • Cap with brim (baseball or boonie style)
  • T-Shirt with crew neck collar (no V-necks)
  • Long pants (no shorts)
  • Rain Jacket and pull-over style sweatshirt (for concealed carry training)
  • Light hiking boots or running shoes. NO open toed shoes allowed!
  • Hearing protection (available upon request, no charge)
  • Wrap around eye protection (available upon request, no charge)
  • Water bottle or hydration system
  • Foul weather clothing
  • Note taking materials (pen, paper and highlighter)
  • 150-200 rounds of range ammo (available for purchase at BRM with advanced

Audience: Handgun owners or people who work in the security business who are looking to advance their shooting skills, hone fundamentals, work though defensive pistol tactics and be challenged with realistic training.

Scope: This course is for handgun owners who want to learn proper/safe techniques of how to efficiently utilize their handgun in defensive situations in order to protect yourself, loved ones or co-workers. The instruction and practical exercises on the range will provide the student a solid skill set in defensive pistol manipulations, tactics, shooting fundamentals, and a variety of additional skills that will. More experienced students will refine their current skill set in order to progress as better shooters.

Participants should be prepared to train in all weather conditions. This program can be challenging and participants should come to class with an open mind and a good attitude. With our personal approach to training, low student to instructor ratio, your skills will improve!

This is an 8 hour training day 8:30 am to 4:30 pm with 30 minutes for lunch. It is highly recommend that you bring your lunch as you will have no options within 15 mins of the range. Audience: New handgun owners to more experienced shooters looking to improve their shooting skills.

Scope: This course is for beginner to intermediate level shooters in the safe and efficient use of a handgun. Classroom instruction and practical exercises on the range will provide the student a solid skill set in basic shooting fundamentals and handgun manipulation skills. More experienced students will refine their current skill set in order to progress as better shooters.

Participants should be prepared to train in all weather conditions. This program can be challenging and participants should come to class with an open mind and a good attitude. With our personal approach to training, low student to instructor ratio, your skills will improve!

Three Bad Days

Three Bad Days

Audience: This course is for intermediate to advanced level shooters wanting to take their skill sets and mental processing abilities to a much higher level. Students need to be familiar with both pistol and AR-15 platforms. This course will help you to ‘embrace the suck’ of some of the worst case scenarios that you may find yourself in during a bad altercation. In this course you will learn problem solving in three environments: compressed/entangled, vehicle/parking lots, and buildings. Our goal is to help you to develop the cognitive and motor abilities before it is all on the line.

Three bad days is a physical course that will challenge your cognitive processing, pistol & AR-15 handling abilities and the applications of many new concepts. This is not a beginner course.

Scope: The focus of this course is to introduce new skills and refine current ones that maybe utilized in high threat situations in order to give students an understanding of how to formulate appropriate responses in high threat situations. Supplemental knowledge gained from course attendance includes gear set up, placement of weapons/first aid kit and topics of focus for practicing on their own.
The instruction and practical exercises on the range (including Force on Force) will increase your defensive pistol/AR-15 abilities and start to develop neurological pathways that maybe called upon in a dynamic critical incident. The student’s defensive pistol/AR-15 manipulations, tactics, shooting fundamentals will increase, and a variety of additional skills that will improve their thought processing abilities. Lastly, use of tourniquets for hemostatic control coupled with live fire exercises will further introduce skills to all students.

Participants should be prepared to train in all weather conditions. This program can be challenging and participants should come to class with an open mind and a good attitude.

These are approximately 8 hour training days from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm with 30 minutes for lunch. Room Clearing & Close Quarters Battle

Room Clearing & Close Quarters Battle

Audience: Armed Professionals or civilians. This is a Pistol and AR-15 course for people who want to learn a way to systemically search a structure (home, work place, etc) to look for loved ones or criminals when time is of the essence. Also for those wanting to learn close quarters shooting skills, room entry/search techniques and the ability to conduct room clearance solo.

Scope: This course is designed to teach students the fundamentals of room clearance/search and give then the skills to effectively/safely operate inside of a house/building. This curriculum is designed for students that have a working knowledge of their firearms and some experience shooting them. An entry level or first time shooter will be over whelmed in this course.

This course taught both for law enforcement and non-law enforcement personnel regardless of your level of experience, we can tailor the curriculum to fit the needs of the group.

Classroom instruction and practical exercises on the range will provide the student a solid understanding of one of the most complex areas of protection. During the course, all participants will learn the terms, techniques, and procedures to make them successful in room to room clearing or search and rescue after a shooting.

Audience: Newer or beginning level shotgun owners to experienced shotgun shooters looking to improve their defensive shotgun shooting/handling skills in their home or wherever it may be needed to defend yourself & loved ones.

Scope: This course is for shotgun shooters looking to learn the safe and efficient use of a shotgun in any environment. Classroom instruction and practical exercises on the range will ensure that all concepts taught to the student are understood and they can utilize them at the appropriate time. More experienced students will refine their current skills in order to progress them as better shooters.

Participants should be prepared to train in all weather conditions. This program can be challenging and participants should come to class with an open mind and a good attitude. Keep in mind we will be firing the shotgun a lot during the course, we recommend a recoil pad or properly fitted shotgun. With our personal approach to training, low student to instructor ratio, your skills and knowledge will improve!

If what you thought to be true about gunfights in and around vehicles turned out not to be true.....when would you want to know?


Cost: $500

Time:0830 to 1630 daily

This course will cover defensive and offensive vehicle gun fighting in depth.

This course is conducted around multiple vehicles that are actually brought on to the range.

The following objectives will be met by each student during the two day (16 hours) course:

  1. Engaging threats in a vehicle: Live fire exercises shooting into vehicles
  2. Engaging threats from a vehicle: Live fire exercise from inside and around vehicles
  3. Points of cover around a vehicle: Explaining the actual cover that exists around any vehicle and modes of survival. Further conducting the necessary movements to facilitate survival and maximize the cover.
  4. Myths associated with vehicles: Fact versus legend
  5. Windshield shooting lab: ALL will fire thru a windshield at threats at various distances. Cameras are encouraged for data collection and for education back to department.
  6. Vehicle shooting lab: Officers will fire into vehicles.Cameras are encouraged for data collection and for education back to department.
  7. Retention shooting: Live fire exercise at point blank range utilizing various techniques for neutralizing threat

  • 800 Rounds of range ammo

Students should bring what they use the most: either duty belt or their work every day carry (EDC) based on their specific duties or inside the waist band holster.

Additional notes: Law Enforcement Officers who would like to fire their duty carry ammo during labs need to bring 20 rounds to fire into vehicles /windshields. We ask law enforcement officers to bring a spare unit / department patch.

AR-15 Operators

Audience:AR-15 owners who are looking for more experience, to gain knowledge and improve their shooting skills on the AR-15 Rifle

Scope: The curriculum is designed for entry level to intermediate shooters in the safe and efficient use of an AR-15 rifle. Instruction and practical exercises on the range will provide the student a solid skill set in basic shooting fundamentals and rifle manipulation. More experienced students will refine their current skill set in order as to progress as better shooters.

TACMED and Close Quarters Pistol

TACMED and Close Quarters Pistol

Audience: This is a Tactical Medicine(TCCC)/care under fire and Close Quarters Pistol course designed for anyone who wants to learn how to care for themselves or others in a bad situation. Being able to perform the necessary measures to save lives and if needed know how to utilize a pistol to protect life.

Scope: This is a 4 hour hemorrhage control (stop the bleed) medical course coupled with a 4 hour close quarters pistol course. This is a VERY hands on class! You will be applying all types of hemostatic dressings, wound packing, tourniquets & performing causality movement techniques, more. The medical portion of this class will be taught by Max Boswell at Advanced Tactical Provider. Max is a recognized subject matter expert whose knowledge and experience in this field are unsurpassed.

The firearms portion of the course is instructed by Kevin Dylus of Blue Ridge Marksmanship. This is also a very intense class with focus on accuracy and surviving the ambush, regardless of where it happens at. The pistol portion starts with fundamentals of close quarter pistol craft and moves to techniques for fighting in close quarters including retention shooting and lots of work shooting from seated positions and in and around vehicles.

Upon the successful completion of this course you will receive two certifications, one being a nationally recognized medical certification.
